Praia da Bafureira is a point break located in the same bay as the surf spot called Bico. Bafureira offers both lefts and rights, with the right being normally the better one of the two. Being a bit faster and shorter than its neighbour Bico makes this wave popular with shortboarders as well.
For many surfers Bafureira is the most fun wave on the Estoril coast. The best time to surf is around mid tide. With higher tides, the wave gets fatter and will most likely have some backwash in it. You can surf this spot with lower tide as well, but watch out for the exposed rocks (especially at the left). Bafureira starts working with smaller swells and can hold up to 2 – 2.5 meters. Be careful with getting in and out of the water with bigger waves and rising tides!
Right next to Bafureira (on the east side) you have another lefthander breaking over a rocky ledge. This is a faster wave that starts working for a short period of time when the tide fills in.
Please note that the best time to surf this stretch of coast is October to March. In the summer there are usually no waves!
