Praia do Norte, also called Algodio, is the beach north of the harbour jetty. It starts to break proper with a bit bigger swell and offers multiple peaks breaking over rocks. There are both lefts and rights, but the best wave is a righthander in the middle of the beach called Marialvas. There is another right (called Moita) breaking off the point on the north side of the beach, but this a local spot.

Although some surf schools give lessons at Praia do Norte, the strong current towards the harbour jetty can make it dangerous when bigger.
