Praia da Torre is a small beach just around the corner (on the other side of the fortress) of the famous Praia da Carcavelos. This surf spot is more sheltered and therefore needs a big swell to start working. If Carcavelos is maxing out, there is a good chance that Praia da Torre has a decent wave.
Although not the best wave in this region, a nice righthander can roll in from the rocks on the west side of the beach. Depending on the sand banks and swell direction, you can also find other peaks more towards the center of the beach. Since the bottom is all sand, you don’t need to worry about hitting the reef.
Please note that the best time to surf this stretch of coast is October to March. In the summer there are usually no waves!
