With smaller swells, Papôa is a fun reef break where you find quite mellow lefts and rights. It is also suitable for less experienced surfers with a clear channel that makes paddling out easy. Papôa is normally less crowded than the other waves in Peniche such as Supertubos, Baleal Sul or Lagide.
When the waves get bigger, this spot gets more dangerous. It’s also recognized as the big wave spot of Peniche, where even tow-in surfing can be done.
